[2023-06-27] Special roundtable discussion with Morning Musume.'s 12th and 13th generations - Tsunku♂ note

note Magazine is "Tsunku♂'s Super Producer's Perspective!". Today's guests are members of Morning Musume.'s 12th generation Nonaka Miki, Makino Maria and Haga Akane, as well as Yokoyama Reina from the 13th generation. To celebrate the arrival of 2 new members, and the release of an album during the summer, a special roundtable discussion was organized.

Each of them discussed their favorite song lyrics as well as their impressions of other members, and had a Q&A session with Tsunku♂. Because of the rich content showing the personality and relationship schemes of each member, the volume of the text is about 15,000 characters with almost not cuts, and will be publicly available for free!

How did you arrive in Morning Musume.?

Tsunku♂: First of all, I will ask you again about what happened when you entered Morning Musume. Nonaka, did you want to be part of Morning Musume.? Or did you apply for a lot of different idol group auditions?

— Nonaka: The first time I ever auditioned was when I applied for Morning Musume. at the age of 14. I've always admired them since my childhood, so Morning Musume. was my only plan.

— Tsunku♂: Which song do you remember listening to during your childhood?

— Nonaka: I especially liked "Koko ni Iruzee!", and I still have a video of myself singing it back then.

— Tsunku♂: Why did you decide to audition at the age of 14?

— Nonaka: I was immediately inspired by the line "It's now or never, do whatever you want" from "Egao no Kimi wa Taiyou sa". I thought "It's now or never to audition", and made my decision.

— Tsunku♂: Ho〜, that's it. Did you have any presentiment that you could pass the audition?

— Nonaka: At the time, it was written "English speakers are greatly welcome" in the audition guidelines. Speaking English was my speciality as I used to be living in America, I thought that I might be able to pass.

— Tsunku♂This self-confidence is good! Next, Makino was a Kenshuusei who then became a Morning Musume., yet she could have been placed in another unit, right?

— Makino: That's true. However, when I auditioned for Morning Musume. as a Kenshuusei member, the jury asked me "Do you want to be part of Morning Musume? Or do you want to be part of a new group?".

I joined the Kenshuusei program because I wanted to join Morning Musume., so I am glad that I became a Morning Musume member.

— Tsunku♂: What would have you done if that did not happen?

— Makino: I have no idea in mind but being part of Morning Musume, so I can't think of anything else now...

— Tsunku♂: Haga became a Morning Musume member after being a Kenshuusei as well. Did your training period fly by?

— Haga: As I was in my 6th year of elementary school when I entered the Kenshuusei program and I became a Morning Musume member during my 1st year of middle school, it all happened very fast. Taking the shinkansen from Nagano Prefecture alone was harder than attending lessons.

— Tsunku♂: I see. Did you feel lonely?

— Haga: I felt lonely. There was no other member taking the same shinkansen as me, and I was eating alone. I think these times were worrisome to the extent that the music played in the shinkansen is still a bit traumatizing me.

— Tsunku♂: Yokoyama, how did you join Morning Musume.?

— Yokoyama: Originally, I learned the dance of "Souda! WE'RE ALIVE" at kindergarten, and I was searching for dance videos on the net when I found its music video; that was my first encounter.

— Tsunku♂: When was that?

— Yokoyama: It was around my 6th year of elementary school, so I was 12.

Honestly speaking, have you been popular in your life until now?

— Tsunku♂: From now, I would like to ask you about your life prior to joining Morning Musume. Around your elementary school times, were you all popular? Or did you not care about your relationships with boys?

— Nonaka: Personally, I was a bit popular overseas (laughs). But this time was probably the peak of my popularity.

— Makino: When I was in my 6th year of elementary school, a boy living in the neighborhood confessed to me. But he was the only one.

— Tsunku♂: What's a confession in 6th year of elementary school!? Did he say "Do you want to date me"!?

— Makino: This boy was reading a sign language teaching book, and during a class, he told me "I love you" in sign language.

— Tsunku♂: So could you say "I love you" in sign language!?

— Makino: This boy then asked me "Do you know what I said?", so I replied "What did you say?" and then he told me "I love you".

The membersSo cute〜!!!!

— Tsunku♂That's great (laughs). What about Haga?

— Haga: I was not interested in love. The only friends I had around were girls, and we never talked about love.

— Tsunku♂: Those girls, what kind of team were they?

— Haga: Rather than being part of a group, I spent my time in duo with a girl I was close to. Therefore, I think we were not a loud type of group.

— Tsunku♂: You were separated away from that girl because you were commuting from Nagano. Did she ask you "What are you doing in Tokyo?"?

— HagaI think she did. However, she was also close to our boy mates, so I'm unsure whether she felt lonely when I was not there.

— Tsunku♂What about Yokoyama?

— Yokoyama:  I was popular in kindergarten to an unbelivable extent. My homeroom teacher said that I was "so popular that it was getting embarrassing". For instance, there were 3 boys giving me their turn to wash hands. I think I was the most popular one in kindergarten.

— Tsunku♂: Were you a rather cheerful kid?

— Yokoyama: I was very shy until my 3rd year of elementary school, and I couldn't chat with anyone but my friends. Around my 4th year, I quickly started to be part of school and grade-level committees, which I think made me become cheerful.

— Tsunku♂: You all spent your most youthful years being part of Morning Musume., yet looking at your friends and mates, haven't you ever thought "I hope I chose the right path" or "I think I made a mistake"?

— Nonaka: Sometimes, when I look at young people on SNS, I tell myself "I envy them" or I feel very lonely. However, it's not "The loneliness is the flip side of fame" as stated in the lyrics of "Be Alive".

— Tsunku♂: There are times like that too, right.

— Nonaka: But when I perform live and do our work-related activities, I have so much fun that these feelings vanish. Therefore, I think that "my decision was the right one" from the bottom of my heart.

— Makino: I have never been jealous of my friends. When I was in elementary and middle school, I wrote "I want to be a Morning Musume member" when asked "What do you want to do in the future", so it's frightening to think about "What would I have done now if I did not became a Morning Musume".

— Haga: When I looked at my friends, it also happened to me to think "I want to go to Disney wearing my school uniform" or "I want to go to Shibuya and take purikura". However, more than that, I really love Morning Musume. and the members.

I feel that the members are the ones who understand me the most, we can talk about anything together and respect each other, so I think the time I spend with them is the one I enjoy the most in my life. The situation I am currently experiencing was absolutely not a mistake, but rather a great decision. I think that "I am very grateful towards myself for auditioning back then".

— Yokoyama: I haven't been much envious of my friends either. I love Morning Musume., and I really love doing something different from what other people do.

I am very happy I became an idol, which only accessible to selected people, and I can't imagine myself enjoying my college life (laughs), so I think my path was the right one.

The rumors related to OGs 12th & 13th generations members are interested in, and their favorite song lyrics

— Tsunku♂When you look at other Hello! Project groups, do you have thoughts such as "This fact about this group is very good"?

— Nonaka: Each group has its own color, right? For example, Morning Musume. shares affection like a family, and tend to be a bit of a sports-oriented group. I have an image of ANGERME as a group of mates acting like friends, with a sense of members sharing the same mindset. I think this is amazing, yet I always feel that "Morning Musume is my number 1".

— Makino: When I was a Kenshuusei, I went on tour with ℃-ute, and their performances were so cool. I admired how ℃-ute could dance with pumps, so I started to wear pumps for the spring tour.

I think it would be very powerful if we could combine Morning Musume.'s dance and ℃-ute's feminity.

— Tsunku♂: For sure.

— Makino: When I met Suzuki Airi-san, she taught me how to walk while wearing heels. Dancing with heels is difficult, and I don't think I could have done it 5 years ago. But now, I am about the same age℃-ute members were back then, so I do my best to challenge myself.

— Haga: Morning Musume. is definitely my number one. Like Nona-chan (Nonaka) said, Morning Musume. is very overflown with warm love. But when it comes to live performances and work-related activities, it is very passionate. I think this is the Morning Musume. that Fukumura-san has created.

Also, since the members go through their own paths, there isn't much trend to follow within the group. I really like that kind of thing, so I am glad I joined Morning Musume.

— Yokoyama: Personnaly, I think it is very cool how ANGERME perform in a stiffly way, and how BEYOOOOONDS entertain with a lot of fun songs. I really enjoy watching other groups' lives, and I end up learning from them. However, of course Morning Musume. is my number one.

— Tsunku♂Well, now, do you have any memorable impression or episode to tell about senpais who graduated from Morning Musume.?

— Nonaka: Are rumors accepted as well? I love Tsuji Nozomi-san, but there is a story I heard from a makeup artist that caught my attention.

— Tsunku♂When Nonaka joined, Tsuji had already graduated a long time ago, right?

— NonakaYes. Even thought I have never been involved in that group, I've admired Mini Moni., so I've liked Tsuji-san for a long time. I've heard that during an Otomegumi music video shooting, Tsuji-san cried hard because she hated having to lift her bangs. As a fan, I thought "So cute...!". I was very impressed.

— MakinoLast year's fall, I went to Disneyland with Michishige-san that I admire. We talked about wanting to go together, and we arranged our schedules. I wore a "Frozen" dress with different colors, and Michishige-san also bought me a hairband.

We had a lot of fun in the park, and on the way back home, she gave me a present saying "Thank you for today". I felt like I was in Disneyland with Michishige Sayumi-san the whole way until I got home.

— Tsunku♂: What was in that gift?

— Makino: It was a cute baumkuchen from Alice, with a letter saying "Thank you for today, Maria-chan". I was so happy.

— Tsunku♂That's so cool. What about Haga?

HagaThis is a story already famous within Morning Musume., but I heard that Tanaka Reina finished to record a song one-shot. The legend passed-down from generation to generation says that it was originally not planned to be recorded one-shot, but the recording ended with the usual "Ah, that's good" after only one take.

I could never do that, and I wonder "Is the legend really true?" so I think that's an amazing story.

— Tsunku♂: I don't know what that recording was for, but depending on the type, one take could be OK. If the director thinks it's enough for Reina, then it could be true.

— Haga: I really like Tanaka-san and I've often seen her live, and she is so perfect that it doesn't even seem that the sound is coming out of her mouth.

During recordings, we take into account our own intentions, but also Tsunku♂-san and the director's ones. For this reason, I try to sing while incorporating various opinions, but I think Tanaka-san completely understands Tsunku♂-san's intentions while singing. I really feel the pureness of Hello Pro in her.

— Tsunku♂: At first, Tanaka faked her age to audition. She was rejected due to the age limitation. At this time, I thought "Wow! That rocks! Let's accept her!", but after a meeting, the organizers concluded that it would be difficult for her to respect the system even afterwards if she broke the rules. I accepted and advised Reina and her family "Please apply again next year!".

— Everyone: Eh〜!

— Tsunku♂: But she properly learned her lesson, came back the year after, and was accepted. I remember thinking that this kid was amazing. She was amazing, because normally at that age, one year after, people usually get already bored or busy with other things.

— Everyone: That's great!

— Yokoyama: I barely talk or meet OG senpai privately, but I talk a lot alone with Sato Masaki-san.

— Tsunku♂: Eh〜! What do you talk about?

— Yokoyama: Yesterday, I was very confused when she called me and suddenly asked "Do you want to go on a trip next week?" (laughs). She is an amazing senpai with a lot of aspects that I respect a lot, but I thought she had a lot of curious sides when we were group mates.

Now that she graduated, there are a lot of moments when I think "Did she really do that!?". For instance, when everyone was doing vocal warm-up and stretching on concert days, Sato-san was not always in the dressing room.

I thought "Maybe she wants to be alone" or "She might be warming up in another place", but in fact, she was cleaning the venue's toilets. She wanted to clean and vocalize with the Toilet God to prepare for the show. I once again realized that Sato-san was a unique kind of idol.

— Tsunku♂Hahahaha! That's funny. As one would expect from Sato. Let's move on to the next question. What are the Morning Musume. songs that were memorable to you?

— Nonaka: Personally, I was very influenced by "Jinsei Blues". When I heard it for the first time, I thought it was a song with a strange melody, but the more I listened to it, the more I thought it was an amazing song. The chorus lyrics, "Life always gets you in impossible situations, managing to make it through makes it all work out" resonated so much in my heart that I wanted to make it a life lesson.

— Tsunku♂: You didn't think "What do you mean?". Did you immediately understand the meaning after reading the lyrics?

— Nonaka: In the case of "Jinsei blues", the lyrics of the chorus directly got into my mind, so I never questioned it. The empathy feelings were very strong.

— Tsunku♂Amazing! By the way, are there things that seem to go wrong?

— Nonaka: Just around my late teens, I had a little fight with the members due to diverging values regarding performances. I remember hearing "Jinsei Blues" at that time and it really resonated with me.

— Makino: On my side "Sou Janai" by Morning Musume.'16 was my first center song. Back then, I was told and taught so many things that I ended up not knowing what was right.

— Makino: At that time, I heard the lyrics "From right to left, I pass through them" that Tsunku♂-san wrote for us, so I thought "I should just pass through". It helped me to understand that I didn't have to lose my ideas.

— HagaI really love "Teenage Solution"'s melody. I really love Pretty Cure series, when I listened to the intro of "Teenage Solution", I got excited and had the image of a transformed heroine jumping out of the clouds with a ray of light while the world was covered by black clouds.

— HagaTsunku-san♂also told us that "This song is like a car's taillights illuminating a city at night", so I wonder if we got the same kind of image. It's a song that I love so much that I'm convinced I will absolutely never get tired of singing it.

— Tsunku♂: We might have gotten similar images for sure.

— HagaAlso, I love "Ai no Gundan"'s lyrics. I think I can relate to all the lyrics, but the "I left this town without knowing the world, and now that I live here, it feels warm like a home before I knew it" part is especially memorable to me.

— Haga: I also came to Tokyo without knowing anything about it, but I did my best, thinking that someday I would fit in both places that are "Morning Musume." and "Tokyo". Now, I couldn't live without Morning Musume., so I think these lyrics are true.

I was also very inspired by the line saying "If you really want to protect someone, you don't care about what others think", as I thought that if I had something that I wanted to protect, I would like to be someone who could act while focusing on that person, without worrying about what others might think. I think "Ai no Gundan" is a song that has been driving me from the time I joined until now.

— YokoyamaAs I love "Please! Jiyuu no Tobira", I sing it almost every year at my birthday event. About that song, I find interesting that idols pursue the door of freedom.

Isn't it uncommon to have idols singing lyrics such as "I'll draw a dream that is so beautiful that it is going to appear on the Guinness Book of Records" or "Because the door of freedom is waiting"? When I heard it prior to joining, I thought it was "contradictory but interesting" that an idol runs towards the door of freedom.

However, when I sang it on my first tour after joining, my interpretation of the lyrics quickly changed. After realizing my dream of joining Morning Musume., the meaning of drawing a new dream became clear to me. So I've always loved "Please! Jiyuu no Tobira", I listen to it everyday.

— Tsunku♂For sure, it is interesting to hear about the feelings of the members about it. Looking back at myself, I thought "Yeah, you wrote good things!" (laughs).

The members obviously do it, but some fans in the street also tell me"I love the lyrics of this song!", but I don't think we can make lyrics to please everyone. Of course the audience and fans are very important, but in the end the most important is that the members are satisfied with them.

I don't want them to be complicated, I write lyrics while thinking "Is this song going to be fun" or "Is this song going to make people cry". There will be new songs from now on, but I hope you enjoyed them until now, including the lyrics.

12th & 13th generations members' "I want to ask Tsunku-san about this!"

— Tsunku♂From now, I will be answering questions from everyone. Let's start with Nonaka.

— NonakaA while ago, I was very impressed when Tsunku♂-san said in a mail that he "bases themes for the songs on events occurring in members' daily lives and activities" . In recent songs, which events turned into themes?

— Tsunku♂: I think what everyone talked about today could become song lyrics in the future. For example, if I had to write about the differences in social norms in Japan and in America, I would think about "What Nonaka, who lived in America, would think about it" while writing.

Until now, it was often about the vision of the world of middle school and high school students, but it could become more mature from now. Disneyland becomes a night view of Yokohama, and so on. I think it would be good to notice these things. I will do my best to express myself better.

— NonakaThank you very much!

— Makino: In the comment I received from Tsunku♂-san during my Kenshuusei days, it was written "It would be good if you had your own gags and self-introduction catchphrases". After joining Morning Musume., I was able to come up with the catchphrase "Marian LOVErin desu" (TN: I am Marian LOVErin), and now, people I work with on TV ended up doing it together with me.

— Makino: Recently, Matsumoto Go, a player from Hokkaido Nippon Ham Fighters, did a "Matsumoto Go LOVErin desu" pose and it was even commercialized. Inside, I think my catchphrase has been spread around.

Therefore, I would like to do the LOVErin pose with Tsunku♂-san today!

— Tsunku♂: (Does the LOVErin pose)

— MakinoIt's cute! Thank you, "Tsunku♂-san LOVErin desu!"!

— Tsunku♂Amazing. I think I wanted to break the image Makino had during her Kenshuusei days. Makino worried that her self-made figure would hopefully not get in the way anymore.

For instance, I didn't talk about it directly with her, so I don't know about her true feelings, but when I look at current Tsuji raising her children, I don't think she cares about appearances to do so. I wasn't sure whether I should talk about it when we mentioned Mini Moni.'s Tsuji earlier, but I will tell you know.

— Everyone: (Nod)

— Tsunku♂: Back then, Tsuji and Kago used to always compete for the best haircuts. Of course, it's not a Tsuji-only issue, everyone goes through this path, but it was about having ribbons or not, twin-tails or ponytails, bangs or not, which shape of bun, and so on. In other words, they started to get obsessed by feelings such as "if I don't do this, I will look unpleasant".  Then, I think showing this to the make-up artist became their reason of being.

The costumes worn on stage are fixed and low-down individualities, so focusing on hair and make-up allow one to free themselves. The make-up artist became a sort of cushion.

This is exactly like Sato cleaning the toilets on a concert day to express herself. Therefore, looking back at Makino's Kenshuusei days, I think that in order to "someday become someone more recognized than anyone else", I feel like I thought she "had to break her model student character early, otherwise it would be more difficult for her to do it afterwards".

— MakinoThank you very much. Thanks to Tsunku♂-san's help, the catchphrase "Marian LOVErin desu" was created. It makes me very happy. Tsunku♂-san might be more of a mother than our mothers (laughs).

— Haga: Morning Musume. has lasted for 25 years of history, and I really want to keep the group connected for many years to come. Then, I would like to know which part of it makes Tsunku♂-san think "I want this to be inherited".

— Tsunku♂Good. Concretely speaking, it's about the rythmn. However, one can't be aware that they "are in rythmn". Just as Americans naturally speak English, when the music plays, I want it to be so engraved in the body that members think "this rythmn is like that".

When it comes to mindset, I would like to preserve respect towards kouhais. Of course senpais are very important, but the newer you are, the bigger amount of songs you have to memorize. Morning Musume. is there thanks to Tsunku♂ and the senpais, but if there is no one to take over, it will come to an end. So if you don't love and cherish them, Morning Musume.'s existence will be endangered. That would be the biggest waste.

I felt so much love hearing everyone's stories today, and there are a lot of things we inherit from our senpais, but love is the most important thing.

— HagaThank you very much. I will do my best!

— Yokoyama: There is one thing I have been thinking about ever since I joined. On her profile on Morning Musume.'s official webpage, even my generation mate Kaga Kaede has a nickname written.

— YokoyamaIn fact, my generation mate Kaga has received the nickname "Edii Kaga" from Tsunku♂-san, but I still haven't received a nickname on my page yet.  So today, I would like Tsunku♂-san to give me a nickname to add on the homepage.

— Tsunku♂How are you currently nicknamed?

— YokoyamaA lot of fans call me "Yokoyan" or "Reina-chan".

— Tsunku♂I see, Kansai people say "Yokoyan", right.

— Yokoyama: Percentage-wise, "Yokoyan" might be my most common nickname.

— Tsunku♂: Using your first name, you would be confused with Tanaka Reina, don't you think?

— YokoyamaThat's right. As Tanaka Reina is here as well, a lot of people use our surnames instead.

— Tsunku♂: (Thinking about it for a while) ... Yossan.

— Yokoyama: Yossan!!

— Members & staff: (Loud laughs)

— Tsunku♂However, there is a theory saying that nicknames given by Tsunku♂ usually don't stick around (laughs).

— YokoyamaThank you very much. From now, I will be using "Yossan".

What are the members' impressions on their senpais?

— Tsunku♂: From now, let's ask you about the members. To start with, please tell me what is your image of Fukumura.

— Nonaka: When I joined, Fukumura had just became leader, but she helped me with her warmth countless times. Instead of giving us strict instructions such as "This girl should do this, this way", Fukumura-san gently kept an eye on us so we could be able to work in a relaxed way during our teenage years.

If Fukumura-san was more severe, my original personality could have been changed. Fukumura-san's warmth definitely influences me.

— Makino: My image of Fukumura-san is Anpanman.

— Tsunku♂: Anpanman!?

— Makino: She always helps people in need. Even when she's dancing, she keeps watching new members on the side of the mirror to give them comments later on. Before lives, she hugs us and tells us motivating words such as "Let's do our best", so that's why I think she is like Anpanman.

— Haga: Fukumura-san's power is her broad-mindedness. Since I joined, Fukumura-san also helped me a lot of times. I had a rebel period while being in Morning Musume., so I used to hit Fukumura-san.

— Tsunku♂Really? For example?

— Haga: Around my 2nd or 3rd year of middle school, when I was in a very bad mood, I didn't even want to sit on chairs, and I would sit on the floor instead. But because Fukumura-san was nice, she should tell me "Akanechin, it's empty here, so please sit on a chair". But I would ignore what she said...

I properly apologized the day after, but I thought I may have hurt the feelings of Fukumura-san who had been so kind to me, so I did so with a lot of sincerely guilty feelings. I was very happy that she kept watching over me without any judgment.

Now, when I feel nervous before a live performance, I make Fukumura-san's lend me a hand by myself, but her hand is always full of warmth. I am influenced by her as well, as she has a greater sense of security and passion for her work than others. I haven't told Fukumura-san about this, but I've always wanted to become someone like her.

— Tsunku♂:  You would make her cry. That's amazing! What about Yokoyama?

— Yokoyama: In my opinion, Fukumura-san is a natural cameleon. There are a lot of different Fukumura-san, but each of them is an amazing person.

She is always by my side to support me, quickly ready to help if there is any issue, so I think she is like a big sister by essence. For instance, if it is known that a kouhai likes a character, she will buy it for them and give it while saying "You like this, don't you?". She is kind as a big sister, but as she is the middle child in her family, I wonder if a part of her lacks a bit of ability to let others spoil her.

In backstages, she often says funny things, and during lives, she tends to have a sexy or cool image, so she really has a lot of different faces.

But all of the latter are truly Fukumura-san, so she is like a very cool cameleon. I am very glad that Fukumura-san was the leader when I joined the group.

— Tsunku♂: Then, what kind of senpais is Ikuta?

— Nonaka: Ikuta-san told me that she sees me as a friend. She might be the one I use LINE with the most.

— Tsunku♂: People say that she is KY (TN: "can't read the air", used to describe someone lacking of awareness regarding their environment), what do you think about it?

— Nonaka: It might be out-of-character to say so, but she is very air-headed.  She does things that are out of the ordinary, so it might be the reason why she is called a KY.

This is how I see Ikuta-san's personality, but usually, she is more aware of the atmosphere surrounding her. I also respect her ability to calculate in her mind the way she should act.

— MakinoIkuta-san is an ikemen. She may not be showing it much publicly, but she is discretely helping others. When I had just joined, I was once practicing a dance by myself and she danced next to me without saying a word.

Haga: I think that among the members, Ikuta-san is the best at reading other people's emotions. She is said to be a KY, yet she is very sensitive. For this reason, I think she notices it when someone is hurt.

When someone is alone, they are times when they actually want to be alone, and also times when they are alone before they even notice, right? Ikuta-san would then look at this person's face and act whether she concludes that "they want to be alone, so let's stay away" or "let's go and talk to them".

I love having physical contact with people, so when I am alone, she comes talk to me and tells me "Akanechin, you can come next to me".

— Yokoyama: Personally, I think Ikuta-san is very careful about her kouhais. She openly says what she likes about the members and her positive feelings towards them. It makes me happy and gives me positive feelings.

During dance lessons, she would say "Yokoyama is better this way", which shows that she puts her kouhais first before herself. It makes me happy and grateful.

— Tsunku♂Then, tell me your impressions about Ishida.

— Nonaka: Ishida-san is the one for whom my impressions changed the most often.

— Tsunku♂Do you mean, her appearance?

— Nonaka: It's about the inside. Before I joined, I had a rather comical image of Ishida-san. To me, she was cheerful, comical, and her dance was great.

After I joined, I started to often see her stoic side, and as she really valued her time alone, I was a bit afraid of her. However, my impression changed, and turned into one of a very warm person.

Ishida-san speaks without hiding what she thinks from the bottom of her heart, which also allows me to do it as well.

— Makino: I think Ishida-san has a cute side. Recently, she said "If it's in front of my eyes, I will eat them", and straight up went put the momiji manjuu in a bag so she wouldn't eat them (laughs). I think she has a lot of cute sides together.

— Haga: Ishida-san tells us about all the good scenes from our lives. For instance, she would say "Akanechin did very well here" or "Akanechin was good here, but it would be even better if she did this".

This made me very happy, so I try to tell the other members about when they did amazing as well well. I feel that I really love Ishida-san's warmth.

— Yokoyama: Ishida-san is a mom. She is the type with whom you can talk about anything, such as funny stories that happened recently, or anime series that you would like to recommend. It feels like wanting to go back home after school and telling your mom "Hey, listen".

Ishida-san listens to the members' happy and funny stories with the same attention. This way, we feel able to talk about anything. If I tell her "This anime is interesting so I would like Ishida-san to watch it as well", she will immediately watch it. It's really always fun to talk with her.

— Tsunku♂: Well, finally, what about Oda Sakura?

— Nonaka: This is my point of view, but I think my personality and Oda-san's are complete opposites on many points.

For instance, Oda-san is the type of person who wants to consider even unspoken feelings, while I am the type of person who doesn't need to go that deep and just wants to stop at considering facts. For this reason, I have a lot of fun discussing values and points of views with Oda-san.

I think each person is different, and Oda-san also influences me a lot.

— Makino: Starting from when we were together during the 10th generation audition, she has given me the impression that she's the strongest in terms of singing abilities. I clearly remember thinking "That's completely different from me" when I first heard her singing.

Now, when we work on singing together, she says things such as "It might sound better if Maria-chan did it this way".  She is someone I can rely on, especially when it comes to help for singing.

— Haga: I want to protect all the members, and I pay attention at them everyday, making sure they come back safely. Among them all, these feelings are particularly strong towards Oda-san.

Oda-san gives very cool performances on stage, but in the backstages, she often spills food or dirties her sleeve. She wants to help for so many things.

If I want to stand in a particular direction when we walk together and the wind is blowing, and if I spill food, the first thing she would want to do is to get a tissue out. The gap between Oda-san on stage and backstages is very cute.

— Yokoyama: Oda-san is like a hero who got a strong sense of justice. As Haga-san already said, she really loves the members, and is very quick at showing up if there happens to be a problem.

I really respect the way she holds her own ideas, but still listens to the other members. I really admired Oda-san at the time I joined, but my impressions of her haven't much changed ever since. Oda-san is a real idol.

It's alright to perform at a festival as you usually do

— Tsunku♂Finally, I will answer to Nonaka's question about how to mentally prepare for a festival.

I have seen some footage from your performances at festivals, and I feel like you are trying to win Morning Musume.'s recognition by coming there, right?

This feeling is very good, and from now, if you want to add something else to your mental preparation, you don't have to think "I'll do it" or "I won't be looked down on".  It's okay to come and perform as you usually do.

At festivals, you can only perform about 7 songs, so if you think "I will show them", then your movements get a bit bigger. I think it's okay to relax a bit more and think about "What can I do" to take on the challenge. Then, I would be happy to hear your final thoughts. Thank you all for today, I had fun talking with you.

— Nonaka: I don't have many occasions to talk directly to Tsunku♂-san, so I am really grateful for this precious opportunity I was given. You told us that the image of our songs might change from Disneyland to a night view of Yokohama, so I am looking forward to receiving slightly more mature songs. We all need to prepare in order to be able to express the visions of the world of these songs.

— Makino: I was a bit nervous when we started, but Tsunku♂-san laughed while listening to be, which makes me very glad. I am very happy that I got to see "Tsunku♂-san LOVErin"!

— Haga: I haven't received much opportunities to talk with Tsunku♂-san until now, but he is like the father of Morning Musume., so I still felt at ease. I am very glad I got to receive direct words from  Tsunku♂-san.

— Yokoyama: I also haven't much talked to Tsunku♂-san until now, and as my kouhais from the 15th generation got to have an interview with him before me, I was a bit frustrated. Therefore, I was really looking forward to being able to say "Today, I got to talk with Tsunku♂-san!". We had been able to spend a lot of time talking, so I really had a great time. I hope I will be able to use what I've learned today from now on!
